The Next Big Project: The Comic Book Reading Adventure of 2015/2016 (Also Book Reading)

As I’ve been falling extremely behind in my reading lately I am going to set myself a goal for the rest of the year, to read at least one TPB, Graphic Novel, or Three Comics a day. See sometimes when I get lost in a bunch of things and start projecting, I start getting distracted and falling behind on my reading and so forth. So in turn that makes me a cranky Wesley and I don’t like falling behind on my reading. Now this is becoming a concerted effort as I want to make this happen so this is going to happen come heck or high water. Besides it’ll give me something for sure to write about every day and make sure that I don’t fall off task off of anything else. I am going to make sure I do some novel reading too as I have on my Habitica to read 50-100 pages of a novel a day and I’ve been falling off track with that tremendously. I was doing good for a bit but I had a couple rough days and fell off track and now I am getting back on that track. I don’t give up, I may stumble but I never give up. That’s the plan from now on. I know there’s a chance I’ll have a couple days where it’ll stumble but I know I can do this and announcing it on the blog here will help in making sure I don’t stumble at least too much anyway.

Think of it as a Goodreads challenge just chronicled on my blog in an organized fashion. Then throughout 2016 I’ll be doing the same updating along with my Goodreads account once the new challenge hits. Some of this stuff is for other projects I want to do, others are just stuff I’ve been wanting to read and will probably end up writing about anyway. Heck I fully plan on writing about my entire 2016 reading challenge next year, that’s going to be a big one for me. Next year is going to be a major one for me and this is just part of what I’m up to for it. Besides I got a lot of cool comics and whatnot I want to read. Heck if I get lost in a good novel then heck I may even try my hand at a book review, hey you never know.

Yep that’s the plan for the foreseeable future. I’m allowing myself wiggle room as we have holidays coming up and so forth so I expect a little bit of stumbling here and there. I’ll do my best though and I know I can do it. Once I put something out there, I am more apt to do it as people can read it and hold me to task. Not too mean though, like I said I expect to have days where I get busy. Maybe I’ll even set up small update blogs day by day to let you all know what I’m reading. Yeah that’ll be fun. You all get to join me along for the day by day of it, the meat and potatoes of the Comic Book Reading Adventure.

This should be a lot of fun and I hope you all join me for the ride. Part one in a longer and more exciting journey ahead. Thanks for reading and take care everyone.

Adventures in Writing about Comics and Me, Oh the Places I Want To Go

I’ve been¬†writing about comics for what seems like ages now. It’s been a journey and a half and never ceases to amaze me the people who like what I write about. Lately I’ve been trying out new ideas and new things related to comics, usually old ads or even talking about TV shows related to comics. It has opened up my eyes to so many new worlds and really helping me find a focus for my writing direction in the coming year. I’ve been using Habitica too as a way to keep myself on task in all that I’ve been doing as well. I’ve been someone who’s written about a lot but you know I still feel I got a lot left in the tank. It’s why I’ve been enjoying doing the Comics and Coffee feed every Friday, it’s been a great way for me to learn things as well. Considering Phoenix has given me full reign with Comics Trivia, it’s even more fun to cut loose and again, I get to try a new thing and so far it has been fun, a lot of fun. Even more I’m starting to loosen up in my writing again as I’m playing around with new projects while doing casual blogging at the same time. I feel you need that balance for the sake of sanity and to remind yourself that hey this is comics, make it fun by golly.

The Saturday Morning Post I did from 1981 was an experiment for me and I liked it. I got to deep dive into youtube and do some research into some shows that I’d heard of but also never heard of. I’m going to do more of that and even more looks at old and new comics. I think I’m going to spend some time with the All-New All-Different Marvel stuff too, heck I didn’t know people were so curious about New Avengers so I’m going to keep rolling with that. I do understand why people got hooked into the Captain America thought process, I liked writing that one too. In my adventure in tweaking my writing style I’m enjoying where it is taking me. I even want to play catch up with my indie and DC books too, I got plenty of those to write about as well. As I say, I got thrown into comics internet in a big way so everything I’ve written has always been a case of learning on the fly. I really have been working and experimenting and seeing what works for me and what doesn’t.

In turn I’ve been also trying to make a point to read much more than I have been. Between comics and novels, I’m backlogged to heck and back so I’ve been working on that. Put it this way, when my habitica has read three comics a day and 50-100 pages of a novel, you know I’m backlogged. It’s all part of improving my own writing and giving me more cool stuff to write about so inspiration and catching up on reading all at the same time. Backlogged reading and me is not good but I can catch up and I’ve also been working on organizing my collection too which also helps in my writing. It’s how I find stuff and keep things from getting cluttered, trying to work more on that. It’s all part of the process.

In turn with all of these projects I want to do it’ll encourage me to also write more. As that’s a major goal is to keep writing, keep working, and keep improving my craft. That’s always my goal and it is why I am always trying to keep learning more. It’s a good process and always something to keep in mind. Never be content with one level and always strive to be better, that’s the name of the game for me. Heck I remember in my early reviews I barely talked about art and so forth, so I made a point to fix that, then coloring, and more. I read, I observe, and I keep learning to see what I can do to make my stuff better. That’s my continuing goal on top of everything else. On my habitica I actually do have a goal of writing 1,000 words a day. I put it on hard but it’s a daily goal I want to make sure I hit. I’ll make it happen come heck or high water.

Now you all know a little more as to what I’m up to with my own writing. This is kind of the opposite of my Chill Bloggity Things where I just write whatever pops into my head just to get something down. Now I’m trying for a more focused goal to get stuff done and written about. The Chill Bloggity Things will still pop up for sure as sometimes I just want to chill and write about whatever. No goal in mind, just write and see what happens. I have so many places I want to go with my writing and I’m far from finished. I’m only giving a hint as to what I want to do in the future. So many more adventures to go on.

For all of you who read all of this, thank you for reading and thank you for taking the time to get a look as to what I want to do. This is partially for me to keep me on point but to let you all know that I have many things that I want to do and appreciate you all taking an interest in my universe. I really do appreciate you all from those just discovering my writing to those who have been following me over the years in my adventures. You’re all awesome and great people, nothing but love here.

I am going to finish this up now and get some more reading done for the evening. Time to get lost in some worlds. Take care everyone and keep being amazing.

It’s a Chill Bloggity Thing kind of night for 9/10/2015 or Steam may rule my Life

Low key is the name of the game today.

Holy crap was today low key so maybe I needed it likely enough. After yesterday of making up for lost blogging time, I didn’t get too much else done. There is always tomorrow, though tomorrow shall be the day of laundry, yay day of laundry, the excitement of laundry! For tonight there shall be writing to be had in between my new mobile gaming addictions. Alphabear is my mobile gaming addiction mixed in with this 80’s Wrestling Card game that is amazing. It is a blast of retro explosion card gaming and it’s done like a wrestling simulator. It’s so much fun and I’ve spent many hours with it so far, between that and Alphabear. A word game and a card game and that is my addiction right now and even better, they’re free to play so whoohoo!

Of course then I learned that Final Fantasy V is coming to Steam, this could get dangerous. I’m excited for this game as the little bit of FFV I’ve played I’ve loved to death so this is going to be yet another addicting thing for me. Either it’ll addict me and I’ll write about it endlessly here or you’ll not see me and in that case someone poke at me to make sure I’m not lost in Final Fantasy. My Habitica would be yelling at me if it could speak. I’d have no RPG health bar and that would make me a sad panda. If I do succumb to FFV in a couple weeks, I’l make a point to limit myself as by golly, I got things to do outside of getting lost in the wonderland of Steam.

I did hear about this game called Dropsy the Clown that is so tempting. It’s an old school adventure game and it sounds so wonderful. I love the art style in the game from the videos I’ve seen so I’m pretty curious about it. I’m trying to avoid that temptation but holy crap is it ever and I mean ever tempting. FFV and an old school adventure game like Dropsy the Clown would guarantee that I’d possibly fall off the face of the Earth into the land of Steam or GOG, depending on the day. Yes I like comics and PC Gaming, this gets dangerous on many fronts.

Ah the quiet Thursday night, a wonderful thing indeed. Not much happening, not much going on, and a lovely time had by all. I shall be reading and so forth for the rest of the evening. Catch you all later!

The Warm Up Chill Bloggity Thing for 9/3/15 or I’m Blocked, I Write Now

Since I actually got some strange hits on here for my last Chill Bloggity Thing, I’ll keep writing them as you all seem to like it. It helps me warm up writing wise as I do laundry so here we are. I got back from the Library and came back with the Daniel Bryan book, DC One Million Omnibus, and Willow on Blu-Ray. I didn’t know my library got the Daniel Bryan book actually so that was a nifty freaking treat, I was excited to say the least. After that I saw this local bakery and deli Servati’s had a Geotta Sandwich and oh my gosh I was so happy. I love Geotta which is for those outside of Cincinnati is a blend of meat (usually pork), pin-head oats, and spices and trust me it is amazing, it is freaking amazing. I got the breakfast sandwich as I was over there at the period where it isn’t quite lunch but still breakfast so I went with the breakfast version of the sandwich. Oh my goodness you all, the Geotta Sandwich was so many levels of awesomeness. Awesomeness on freaking overdrive. Even got a fresh fruit cup and cookies so I call that a winner if I ever heard one.

For today I have writing to work on, my Habitica page is a truck load of to-do projects on this end. I also finally want to watch Birdman so I plan on doing that in a bit. Maybe after I get the first draft of something I’m working on done and then Birdman will be my reward. I even get my manga delivery today! That is what I am talking about. I swear these random blogs here or as I call them now my chill bloggity things are so much fun for me to write. If you all enjoy my rambles about my day and my writing warm ups, do feel free to write a comment if you like. Say hi, give me a robotic battle suit, or something something pony, whatever you deem fit. Now that we got the writing muscles all relaxed and so forth, it is time to get going with the writing adventures. Onwards to victory!

Lost on Mars on a Sunday thanks to The Martian: A Chill Bloggity Thing

Today I decided to spend it mostly in the realm of a good book. Specifically The Martian by Andy Weir. In anticipation of the movie I decided it is time to read the book. I’m almost done with it actually as I only have about 100 or so pages left in it. It’s an amazing read and now I totally see why Matt Damon is the lead, he is so perfect for Mark Watney. It’s got everything I would want in a book, I’ve laughed many times as much as I’ve yelled out many expletives along the way. It’s one enthralling book and hopefully I should finish before Fear the Walking Dead tonight. Yes I’ve been doing more structured blogs here as of late but today I want to write and can’t think of anything so chill bloggity thing it is for you all. Besides I’ve been lost in a good book so I have a good reason for not being able to come with something on here today. As it is my personal blog I can play around with the format here and there.

I did play some more comic organization today too in the midst of my mega reading session today. I’ve been trying to cull down the collection a little. I find many books as I go through my adventure in my collection. In fact you all may laugh but on my Habitica page comic organization is high on that task list. Yes my Habitica is quickly becoming tailored to the land of me and hey it is my Habitica so I can make that kind of magic happen. My word is Habitica becoming my obsession to a point, if I feel I’m going to miss something I make sure I get it done. At least it is keeping me on point which is what ultimately matters here. Organization, getting writing done, reading, and all that fun stuff, hail Habitica.

That’s been my Sunday overall. I’ve been reading all day long and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Such a low key Sunday. Possibly the most low key Sunday I’ve had in a long while. I guess I needed it but I still kept on task and ultimately that is the big point of the day. Low key but get things done and that is huge right now. Now to continue being lost on Mars. Bye everyone!

Catching up with Comic Books is Fun!

There’s a unique experience in playing catch up with a comic book backlog, it can be daunting but it can also be strangely fun. In my usage of a program called Habitica, (which by the way I wrote about), one of my goals outside of writing 1 hr a day and focusing on personal projects is reading one hour a day minimum. I apply that to cutting down on my comic book backlog and that’s been a lot of fun. I’ve been discovering new books, catching up on old ones, and I long finished my Goodreads reading challenge. Right now I just finished two volumes of Ales Kot’s Secret Avengers that he’s been doing with Michael Walsh and it is a joy to read. It has M.O.D.O.K. which is total love but also Vladimir the sentient bomb is one of my favorite things ever. I’ll end up talking more on Secret Avengers¬†at some point but right now I am on happy reading mode along with writing thanks to all this. I’m backlogged on comic books and novels in general right now but at least I’m making more headway into it. In turn I’m having a blast with the whole process, I’m a strange dude in this case but hey I’m happy with being a little off the wall.

Now I’m back into a steady groove of writing, exercising, reading, and I’m all the happier for it. Organization is a beautiful thing right now and I’m catching up with all the things right now. I went off a little there but I’m letting you all know how much fun I am having with catching up with everything. It’s so weird that catching up with comic books and catching up with everything can be so much fun but it strangely is. Life is getting even better from here now and comic books again are a big part of why things are getting more awesome.
